Director Gore Verbinski’s first foray into 3d animation has earned Rango a 9 nominations for the 31st Silver Lena’s Awards, leading all animated films this year. The film, in fact, is so appreciated by the nominators, that it is up for Best Film, and Verbinski himself is up for Coolest Director. Titular Character, Rango, voiced by Johnny Depp is also up for Best Animated Character (Lead). Other nominated animated films this year include The Adventures of Tintin (6 award nominations), Puss in Boots (3 nominations) and The Illusionist (2 noms).
And while some might view Rango being an animated film as a handicap in the most prestigious category, I remind you that 2007′s Rattatouile, 2008′s Wall-E and 2009′s Up each won the Silver Lena for Best Film in their respective years.
Rango‘s nominations are listed below:
Best Film
Coolest Director Gore Verbinski
Best Original Screenplay John Logan
Best Title Scream Moment(s) “The Name’s… Rango.”
Best Original Music Hans Zimmer
Best Original Song Rango’s Theme Song
Best Animated Character (Lead) Rango
The “Eric Stoltz’s Head” Award For Widescreen Composition
The “Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie” Award For Really Messing With Your Brain
Despite its impressive 9 noms, Rango only managed one win this year, Best Animated Character (Lead)
